Ingredient of the Week: Yoga

What is it? A hindu discipline involving controlled breathing, meditation and body positions.

Benefits: Improved mood, flexibility, strength, posture and balance, increased blood flow, focus and awareness, and deeper sleep.

Interesting fact: Yoga therapy has been linked to improvements in depression, schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions.

How to: There are so many different types of yoga so head along to a class at your local studio or gym, practice postures using an app on your smartphone or try to follow a youtube video.

To Coconut or Coconot?

Ingredient of the Week: Chickpeas

What is it? An edible seed, round and light beige in colour, and high in protein.

Benefits: High in fibre and protein, contain iron, phosphate, calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, potassium and vitamins C, B-6 and K to help manage digestion and blood sugar, decrease cholesterol and improve bone and heart health.

Interesting fact: The leaves of chickpea are used for the manufacture of blue (indigo-like) dyes.

How to: Add chickpeas to salads, replace animal protein in curries or baked dishes, slow cook as a side dish to any meal or add hummus to anything and everything!
